Being the coffee-lover (and tired Mom) that I am, I opted to try a blend especially made for Gross from local roaster Coffee By Design, to go with the “Hazelnut fiancier” we shared. The atmosphere itself is great for date night: old, exposed brick, wood beams along the ceiling and unique lighting throughout the various nooks and crannies create a romantic setting. The establishment, which sits below street level, came to life with the help a Kickstarter backing of almost 300 donations. Since the desserts-only locale opened earlier this month, it has become a hotspot being the only restaurant in Portland serving just the sweet stuff. Newly opened Gross Confections was definitely the busiest place we encountered while we ate our way around the city. Erinne MageeĪfter a quick dip back at the hotel pool, we were able to gain a second wind to venture out again. Situated on the pier in Portland, Boone's Fish House has been serving fresh seafood since 1898. Prosecco and Shipyard Export were the $5 drink specials. These were all priced at $5 for happy hour. For bigger snacks, we ordered crispy brussels sprouts, sweet potato tots, calamari and shrimp skewers. Boone’s happy hour consists of 75 cent oysters and shrimp cocktail. Again, we went for a sampling of items to pace our stomachs. The restaurant is situated on a working pier (which doesn’t mean much this time of year) with a unique open-kitchen concept. We lucked out at our next stop, Boone’s Fish House and Oyster Room, as the impending storm left us without a wait on a Friday night. For example, margaritas made with a base of Kombucha or Coconut Water. Sebago is also known for their “Healthy Hour,” taking favorite drink recipes and putting a lighter spin on them. Turns out, the bites were as fresh as expected and with just the right kick. You can’t really go wrong with seafood in this area, given the proximity to the water. We popped in to check out the menu at Sebago Brewing Company and since it wasn’t quite dinner, we opted for Cajun haddock bites. If you’re into the craft beer scene, Portland is a must as it has more breweries per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. Our first stop was right on the ground floor of our hotel. Since we are both foodies at heart, we chose to be guided by our taste buds for this lengthy date.
